808TTV E.62 - This Is Hanalei.

Hanalei Beach is really 2 beaches in one. Hanalei Bay itself indents the coast a full 1 mile. Gentle waves roll across the face of half-moon Hanalei Bay, running up to the wide, golden sand. A sandy, horseshoe-shaped strip of sand curves the full length of Hanalei Bay. Along this 2 miles of sand, there are two parks: Hanalei Beach Park and Waioli Beach Park. Each has picnic areas, restrooms, and marvelous ocean and mountain views. Behind you, sheer volcanic ridges laced by waterfalls rise to 4,000 feet just 3 miles (5km) inland. Click Here To Download

Come along as we take you down the elevator at Sharks Cove on the North Shore of the island of Oahu. Sharks Cove was rated by Scuba Diving Magazine, July 1996, one of the “Top Twelve Shore Dives in the World”. This small rocky bay forms part of Pupukea Beach Park and boasts blue water and an impressive amount of sea life. The bottom is made up of large smooth boulders and coral heads forming small caves and ledges for marine life to hide. The walls of the surrounding cliffs provide calmer water attracting schooling surface fish. On the south side of Sharks Cove is the Pupukea tide pools; a great place to wade and explore. While going down the elevator can be fun, it is not recommended for the faint of heart. Caution advised! 808TTV E.79 - Hawaii Superferry Woes.
So the Hawaii Superferry is at an all stop. Why? Well many are concerned about the EIS not being accomplished and therefore believe the Superferry should be banned from the outer islands. In Maui a Judge has issued a TRO restricting the Superferry from traveling there. On Kauai the citizens got together and staged an in water protest to block the Superferry using their bodies. One thing that really gets to me is the disregard of Aloha towards the local residents. I ask again, where has the Aloha gone? Got problems with Superferry then take it up with them, not your neighbors and fellow Kamaaina. 808TTV E.82 - Punaluâu Black Sand Beach.
“Punalu’u Beach (also called Black Sand Beach) is a beach near NÄ’Älehu on the Big Island of the U.S. state of HawaiÊ»i. The beach has black sand created by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it reaches the ocean and cools. This volcanic activity is in the HawaiÊ»i Volcanoes National Park.
Punalu’u is frequented by endangered Hawksbill Turtles and Green Sea Turtles, which can often be seen basking on the black sand. Visitors must remain 15 feet from the turtles at all times. The swimming area is very rocky, and it can be dangerous to swim. The beach also has a large amount of underground fresh water that flows in it. This fresh water is very cold and looks almost like gasoline mixing with the water. Legend has it that in the time of drought, the early Hawaiians living in the area would dive underwater with a jug to get their fresh water.
Taking black sand and volcanic rocks from the area is prohibited.“

808TTV E.83 - At The Waikiki Wall.
In Waikiki at the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua, extends this beautiful jetty simply called “The Waikiki Wall.” It’s a favorite local spot that’s been around for decades and is popular for boogie boarders and the occasional jump off the wall. On July 4th we spent our day hanging out in Waikiki soaking up the sun and catching some of the latest action at the wall. While this is a beautiful place to enjoy some fun in the sun and a splash in the water, we CAUTION you that it is very DANGEROUS to jump off the wall and to boogie board here due to the shallow waters that surround the wall. In fact if you do take a visit to the wall, you’ll notice how the more knowledgeable locals wait for a wave to come in before jumping off the wall.
Despite the dangers it is still one of the best places around for some genuine ocean fun, so be sure and pay it a visit!

808TTV E.84 - CANstruction Honolulu 08.
The 3rd Annual Honolulu CANstruction Design/Build Competition was held on Saturday, August 23 from 8:00am - 2:00 pm at Pearlridge Mall, Uptown. This was an exciting six-hour competition led by AIA Architects, design professionals and engineers. Five-member teams erected giant, carefully designed structures that were built entirely out of canned food to fit within a “footprint” of eight feet by eight feet, and as tall as eight feet. As they were being built you could see each structure taking on a form and design of its own. The canned food being used for the build as well as the canned food that will be used to cast votes, will benefit the Hawaii Foodbank.
Watch this wonderful 6 hour buildoff compacted in a video less than 8 minutes that showcases the entire build entry from Fung Associates, Inc.

808TTV E.86 - Meet Joshua Alo.
Come along today and meet Joshua Alo.
“In early 1999, Joshua enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a mail transportation manager where his job is strictly to ensure the deployed U.S and coalition troops receive mail, no matter where they are, to and from their loved ones back home. This unique occupation provided him a broad global experience and cultural understanding throughout the years having lived in Japan, Belgium, Italy, Kingdom of Bahrain, traveling to 26 countries and to include multiple deployments to Iraq.“
He has performed countless times throughout Europe and even for the troops in the battlefields of Iraq. His recent return to the islands introduced his music to live local audiences both on Oahu and Maui and further introduced his delightful soothing sounds to Hawaii.
Now the goal is worldwide and we at 808Talk are happy to introduce Joshua to our viewers around the world. Remember if you enjoy Joshua’s sounds please support local music from the islands and purchase his album on iTunes or CDBaby.
